TriCross Comp

2008 Specialized TriCross Comp cyclocross bike

This is a great bike! The best purchase of any kind I ever made. Takes a beating and still rides like butter. And it has a built in 6-pack rack with a bottle opener on the front.

Don’t know why the picture sometimes doesn’t show on the page.

  1. I am shopping for a bike, how would you say this bike compares to the Surly Long Haul Trucker ?

  2. I haven’t any experience with the Long Haul Trucker. I hear great things about Surly bikes from those who own them, though. I don’t think you can make a mistake either way. The TriCross has better components, but it’s much more expensive. It’s lighter too, because of the aluminum frame, but a much stiffer ride.

I think a lot depends on what you’re looking to do with your bike.

I love my TriCross, but, as with any bike, there are some issues to be aware of. After three years of hard use, my Shimano 105 left shifter went, and I’ve replaced with Ultegra.

I really like the extra set of brakes on top of the bars on my TriCross (!!!).

Just to muddy the water – If I was looking for one perfect commuter do-everything bike, I’d get something with flat bars (instead of drops, which I never use). I’d also get disc brakes. If I could find a bike like the TriCross with straight bars and disk brakes, I’d be good. I think the Canadian line of Jamis bikes have some like that.

  3. Nice bike..I have a sport version and just put on a On One Midge drop bar and some nice fat Bontragger LT3’s.Great for Kicking around the city or tearing up single track and gravel trails. Not much drag from the LT3’s,makes commuting to my favorite trails a pleasure..That rack set looks like just the thing for my weekend trail hunts. What kind of fender’s are those?..They look great..just the right amount of coverage. fit the racks nicely.
